German City Codes

German plates have a very interesting format. Here is a quick overview of how it works. First most of the plates you see on the site include the European Union blue strip with a shortened country code (For example D = Deutschland = Germany) and the 12 Golden stars (Flag of Europe). Generally the rest of the plate will be reflective white with black lettering and border (there are exceptions). The first 1-3 letters are for the Region and City (see the long list below). Next are the state or city seals (check out our German License Plate Registration Seal Chart) , followed by random letters or numbers.

A quick look on any source will give variances to this info but it is a good starting point and we have posted most of the plate images on our site to reflect the correct way to create and build a plate.
